Get ready for more traffic back ups than usual on Gunbarrel Road right by Hamilton Place Mall.
A widening project will close down a curb lane for the next couple of months.
It's just one of several projects making traffic a nightmare in that area.
Drivers beware!
Jill Martin, Driver, "It's bad. It's very bad."
And it's about to get worse.
The signs are up... the barrels prepared and the work will soon be underway on Gunbarrel Road.
Dennis Malone, City Traffic Engineer, "The goal of this project is to provide better access into the mall and into Wal-Mart basically by providing two left hand turning lanes into both facilities. "
That's the plan for this small section of Gunbarrel.
Mark Barfield, Driver, "I have to like, go back roads and stuff just to get where I need to be. I work right off Shallowford Rd.
But the result...a two-month headache for drivers.
Jill Martin, Driver, "It's going to be impossible to get down Gunbarrel Road. We're going to have to reroute. We're going to have to reroute. There's no way."
That's why businesses around here aren't looking forward to the next 60 days either.
The work starts right outside Rone Regency Jewelers.
Bob Mason, Rone Regency Jewelers, "If they don't get it before Thanksgiving it will be a little bit of an inconvenience but if people know it's going on I think they'll schedule around getting here where it's not going to be a terrible inconvenience."
This project joins three others in the area...a roundabout installation just across the street at the Mall entrance along with work down the street on Shallowford Road... between Gunbarrel and Jenkins, and at Napier.
Malone, "It is pretty much a disaster area in that area right now."
Cassandra Barfield, Driver, "Christmas is coming up, Black Friday, everything's going to be crazy and considering the fact that the Mall is just right there, yeah, it's going to be hectic."
But weather permitting...relief is coming by November 17th...giving shoppers the green light just in time for the holiday season.
For now your best bet is to use alternate routes.
And more work is coming to the area soon.
Malone says funding has been approved for design work on Gunbarrel north of Shallowford Road toward Standifer Gap.
