The city of Ringgold and Catoosa county voters next Tuesday will decide whether to allow package sales and Liquor by the drink on Sundays.
Early voters got a chance to voice their opinions on the controversial issue.
Local communities in Georgia like Ringgold and Catoosa county are letting voters decide what used to be a hot-button issue--- the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays.
The state law was changed last year to take that decision out of the hands of state officials.
Early voters were not hesitant to tell us how they feel.
GENE ORR, CATOOSA COUNTY "With the economy the way it is, if a person's going to drink, they're going to do it anyway."
BERTIE ORR, CATOOSA COUNTY "Well, I think why not sell it on Sunday because it doesn't take them but a few minutes to go get it."
At present, Sunday alcohol sales are forbidden inside the Ringgold city limits.
There are two questions on the ballot ...One to allow malt beverages and wine on Sunday afternoons. The other is to allow sale of alcoholic beverages on premises.
MAYOR JOE BARGER, RINGGOLD "I'm for a referendum that will let the people have their voice and that's what we're doing."
Mayor Barger, who says he doesn't use alcohol, predicts the issues will pass.
County commissioners voted last summer to put the liquor by the drink and package sales referendums on the Nov. 6 ballot saying that decision should be up to the tax-payers.
MICHAEL MOORE, RINGGOLD "If they get enough votes, hope they don't..I know it'll bring in a lot of revenue for the stater, the city...I'm just not a big fan of it."
Bob Neighbors doesn't use alcohol but sees why some would want to change the law.
BOB NEIGHBORS, RINGGOLD "It will help the economy..bring in businesses that would not otherwise come in."
LARRY MORRISON, RINGGOLD "well, I think we ought to give the drunks one day to sober up..you know, six days a week is enough for anybody to drink."
This is the last day of early voting and by late today more than 12-thousand people had turned out.
That total is less than 2008, when 14-thousand-500 early votes were cast.
