The forced resignation of Ft. Oglethorpe's city manager and firing of their police chief and public works director made for a lot of upset citizens, and state representatives in their district heard their cries.
Representative Tom Weldon and Senator Jeff Mullis formed resolutions to create a charter study committee to review the city's charter and recommend changes to it.
"In response to my constituents in Ft. Oglethorpe's request, we're putting together a group of citizens to review the city charter to make recommendations and to ensure that the people of Ft. Oglethorpe are properly represented," said Weldon.
But Mayor Lynn Long isn't very fond of the idea.
"I do not want to let this turn into a witch hunt against elected officials in the city that some elected official in the state is a little miffed about," Long said.
So he's forming his own charter study committee.
"Each member of council will have two choices.  They will have two people they appoint.  Two times four is eight so they'll be eight members of that council."
Weldon says recommendations from the Mayor's committee won't hold any weight since certain changes to the charter need to be approved by the state.
