A series of job losses in Fort Oglethorpe government began with an executive meeting, leading up to an unexplained resignation from city manager Ronald Goulart.
"Due to circumstances beyond my control I hear in respectfully submit a resignation as city manager of Ft. Oglethorpe," said Goulart.
Next, Mayor Lynn Long reccommended Harold Silcox as the interim city manager and the council approved.
Once the meeting adjourned Silcox immediately got to work, firing public works director Jeff Long and Police Chief David Eubanks.
"It's I guess local politics, dirty politics, but I'll just notify my attorney and let him take it from there," said Eubanks.
Eubanks did not want to comment.
Mayor Long wouldn't go in to detail about what led up to the Goulart's resignation.
"Mr. Goulart, that was his decision to resign.  That was not the council's decision. He made that decision," said Mayor Long.
However, Goulart said the Mayor gave him an ultimatum.
"I was approached by the mayor and informed that he had the votes to terminate me and would I go ahead and resign," Goulart said.
Mayor Long would not confirm nor deny that conversation.
As far as reasoning behind the firings, Silcox also would not explain.
Reporter: You fired two people and you've just become the city manager.
        Silcox:     Yes Ma'am
Reporter:  Is there any reason behind that?
Silcox:     No ma'am that's personnel matter.
