Following a round of January open forums on campus, a group of five candidates has been narrowed to three finalists for the position of chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Dr. Diane Allen, Dr. Steve Angle and Dr. Harold Jones have accepted the search committee’s invitation to return for a week of follow up interviews beginning on Monday. The finalists will meet with Gov. Bill Haslam, who is chairman of the UT Board of Trustees; UT President Joe DiPietro and his executive staff; UT Trustees Vice Chairman Don Stansberry and Chattanooga-area trustees; and the chancellors of UT Knoxville, UT Martin, the UT Health Science Center, and the UT Institute of Agriculture.

Allen is provost and senior vice president for academic affairs and professor at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md. Angle is senior vice president and a professor at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Jones is dean of the School of Health Professions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The search committee is comprised of representatives and leadership from UT Chattanooga and the campus community and chaired by UT Institute of Agriculture Chancellor Larry Arrington.

“The search committee presented President DiPietro with a strong pool of candidates, and he was pleased with the finalist recommendations,” Arrington said. “The committee has done great work, most recently in narrowing the group of five very impressive candidates to the three excellent finalists.

“We’re grateful to have had such an excellent group to consider, and their caliber is a compliment to the stature of UT Chattanooga and the quality of leadership the chancellor position attracts.”

Following the week of interviews that conclude on Friday, Feb. 8, plans are for DiPietro to select one of the three finalists to recommend to the UT Board of Trustees at its February meeting on the Chattanooga campus. UT campus chancellors are elected to their positions by the UT Board, which will vote on the finalist DiPietro recommends for the UT Chattanooga post.

The new chancellor will replace Roger Brown, who retired Sept. 30. The search committee began the process of choosing Brown’s successor in late August and has been assisted by Parker Executive Search.
