Chattanooga police respond to a home invasion on Florida Street early this morning, that ends with an officer fatally shooting a suspect.  That's near Vance Road, off Lee Highway.

Authorities say shortly after midnight, a neighbor, who came outside to smoke, noticed two men approach the front porch of 1332 Florida Street, armed with guns.  Chief Bobby Dodd says "one was armed with a long weapon of some type, she wasn't sure if it was a shotgun or a rifle.  They kicked the front door in, she called police and told them a home invasion robbery was taking place.  The officers were pretty close here answering an alarm call so they responded in pretty good numbers."

Officers quickly set up a perimeter, but one of the suspects tried to leave the home, possibly by crawling out the window.

Chief Dodd says officers challenged him, when they noticed he had the weapon in his hand and he was shot and killed.
Chief Dodd says officers took the other suspect into custody.
The names of the two men will be released later today.

The victims inside the home were not hurt.

The five officers involved are on leave, but ok.
