The popular trails of Rainbow Falls on Signal mountain turned into a rescue scene when Emergency Management public information officer Amy Maxwell says a 50 year old man hiking fell about 100 feet to his death.
"Hamilton County EMS were able to get down to the patient maybe about 15 minutes into the call. The patient was conscious at the time but he did have critical critical injuries during the execration on the trails. The patient did overcome to his injuries and did expire while trying to get out of the woods," Maxwell said.
She told News 12 the man was with a friend when he fell from a waterfall and into the water below.
The friend didn't have cell phone service and had to hike back up the trail for help.
"The problem is he had to leave the scene because he was up an area, he wasn't down with him so he left to go call for help," said Maxwell.
Maxwell confirmed the man is a resident of Signal Mountain but his identity is not being released.
There is also an investigation into exactly how he fell and what caused his death.
