Questions surround the death of a seventeen year old Scottsboro girl.

She was found dead... And her boyfriend is in the hospital.

One teen is dead and another is injured.

But as to whether this is simply a crime, or a crime of passion, is left to be determined.

Scottsboro Police Chief Ralph Dawe described the information as 'sketchy' and says police are still trying to determine a motive.

"On the surface it appears to be, of course we have to investigate. But it appears to be a murder attempted suicide," says Dawe.

Police aren't yet sure who pulled the trigger, but they found seventeen year old Tessa Faye Groves dead inside this home on the 500 block of Quincy Street.

Her boyfriend,19 year old Jonathan Maurice Nicholson, was on the driveway seeking medical attention - with a gunshot wound to his face.

Chief Dawe told me the two had apparently been dating for about a year.

Neighbor Mack Baker says he heard a single gun shot about 40 minutes before police arrived, had no idea it was so close to home.

Baker says "It's a sad thing. These young folks had their whole life ahead of them. It's sad for the victim."

Baker took his dog outside after hearing the shot, and didn't notice any activity around the house.

Baker says the couple often sat outside on the porch across from his home.

"We seen her quite a bit. As we were coming in and out they would be outside. It's like I was telling somebody else, it seemed like everything was good with them you know," he says.

Baker says he never saw the two have a disagreement, although no one can know what goes on behind closed doors.
