Local voters made their decisions in Campaign 2012.
For the most part it turned out as we expected.
But today there are some surprised.
WDEF News 12's Nordia Epps has a wrap up of reaction from some of the top races...
It was smiles and hugs all around at Congressman Scott Desjarlais' headquarters...as he celebrated the victorious end of a tough campaign against State Senator Eric Stewart.
Desjarlais, "We've endured. The methods that were used in the last election it didn't work and it didn't work this time. The people of Tennessee's 4th district understand what it takes (applause) to get the job done and I thank you again."
But the scandal involving sex with his patients 14 years ago isn't over.
And former congressman Zach Wamp has this advice.
Zach Wamp, "If I were Scott Desjarlais I'd think long and hard about saying 'hey, I'm just going to serve. I was elected but y'all can have politics. I'm out of politics. Otherwise it's going to be awful. They'll grind him down to a nub."
We made history in Tennessee with the first Republican supermajority in both the House and Senate.
Though Democrat Representative JoAnne Favors managed to hold on to her state house seat in a new district.
JoAnne Favors, (D) TN House 28, "The citizens asked me to run and I did so. They felt that I should be the one to represent them considering all the critical issues we have in healthcare now, and that is my forte, health care and education, so that's why I was elected."
Todd Gardenhire became the first Republican in 40 years to serve the newly drawn Senate district 10...beating democrat Andrea McGary.
Todd Gardenhire, (R) TN Senate 10, "The only thing I want to concentrate on is getting a Vo/Tech school for the downtown inner city like the old Kirkman High School, downtown somewhere where the kids downtown can go to instead of having to travel way up to the North End of the county."
Lawmakers return to work in early January.
As expected Chuck Fleischmann won Tennessee's District 3 U. S. House Seat and Bob Corker was easily re-elected to the Senate.
