Vote them out of office. If we don't make them sorry for what happened, other cities will do it. When other cities hear about Etowah they will decide it's not worth it. Anyone know a lawyer who owns a pitty?

The city banned pit bulls as a knee jerk reaction. I encouraging all people that disagree with this new law to take legal action against the city, as it is unfair and an infringement on your rights. Tie up the city with legal fees and lawsuits, and see how quickly they drop this ban. The city has absolutely no scientific basis to discriminate against dogs, and the city officials just proved they are incompetent in making rational, fair decisions.

The chances of being fatally mauled by a pit bull type dog... .0025 percent. Less than a rottie, chow. http://www.1800petmeds.com/education/pit-bull-facts-and-myths.htm. Study was done by pet meds. Which I doubt are influenced by the "dog men" or outside money..

It's not just about the Ban. It's about elected officials who don't do what the MAJORITY of reputable agencies and citizens want. it's about their personal agenda.Say No to Etowah’s Officials Mayor Jim Bull said 2 Etowah residents could speak against the pitbull ban for 3 minutes each. He let 3 or 4 to speak for the ban, 2 or 3 were paid policeman speaking in a on duty obligation. He did not consider suggestions made by the ASPCA, and 51 other credible agencies including MTAS who created the ordinance. 15 people at the meeting For BSL and about 100 opposing BSL, most are Etowah residents. How did it pass? It is obvious he did not listen to the residents of Etowah. Again he ignored the info, suggestions and help from citizens. You have laws to deal with dogs. If you were doing your job, you would not have this problem! MTG comments: Quest-How much will this cost the city? Answ-We don’t know. Quest-Where do we bring our dogs? Answ- Humane Society. Quest-How? they won’t accept them, Etowah did not pay the $2k this year. No Answer. Non resident Commissioner John Bohannon tabled the Ban, his daughter represented the Ban. Hmmm

I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Animal Behaviorist! I am also a Pit Bull Owner! My Yorkie is more likely to go after my children than any of my Pit Bulls! I can say that 9 out of 10 Pit Bull owners are responsible dog owners. The problem that people have with Pit Bulls is actually a problem with irresponsible dog owners who happen to own Pit Bulls. Other breeds bite more often however, those bites are reported less often! To ban a specific breed of dog due to some irresponsible owners in a distant area is the same as prohibiting a type of people from moving into a town due to individuals in that ethnic group being involved in crimes in another state. Training for any dog is key to proper behavior and Pit Bull Owners are more likely to go through training to battle the stigma placed on the breed due to the bad owners out there! If you want to dispute me or my opinion I can be reached at 423-305-1195 or 423-400-4282!

The Mayor of Etowah is an IDIOT. The dogs most likely to bite according to statistics are the Dachshund, followed second by the Chihuahua, and third followed the Jack Russell Terrier. Statistically Pit Bulls rank BELOW average on their aggressiveness towards strangers. The risk is when you have owners that fail to follow common sense and existing laws. This is the same argument over gun ownership- if we bans guns we'll be safer, right Mr Mayor? Wrong again, the adage of gun bans only ensure that criminals will have them is statistically TRUE. Just like this stupid Specific Breed Ban- statistically there is a plethora of evidence to its failure. So Mr. Mayor and Council Members do YOUR homework, not make ill conceived knee jerk decisions that are certain to be unenforceable and will NOT solve the problem of irresponsible dog owners. Mr Mayor you are an idiot

Pitbulls are inherently dangerous, never listen to those with a vested interest who make a lot of money from dogs that Pitbulls are safe. Don't believe their BIASED studies, their lies or their propaganda. The only reason these dogs are not banned is because of MONEY. Animal welfare groups financially lobby political parties and manipulate the whole process, people who make money from dogs are the only ones who say Pit-bulls are safe. The medical profession, Child Welfare Groups, Health & Safety advocates and the Victims all disagree. If I littered my lawn with land mines and told you it was safe to walk through, would you do it, of course not.Don't listen to the Pitbull Advocates either, it could get you killed. In one 85-day period from July to September 2008, pit bulls were involved in 127 dog attacks, 57% of which occurred off the owner’s property. In these attacks, 158 people were injured, 63% of them severely; 10% of the victims suffered severed body parts; and 6 victims were killed. 12 In the same period, 128 dangerous pit bulls had to be shot to death by police officers or citizens. A closer look at these figures indicates that 1 person is killed by a pit bull every 14 days, a person loses a body part to a pit bull attack every 5.4 days, 2 persons are injured by pit bulls each day, and 1.5 pit bulls are shot to death each day. Over a recent 3-year period from January 2006 to March 30, 2009, a total of 98 dog bite fatalities involving 179 dogs occurred; 60% of the deaths were caused by pit bulls, and 76% were caused by pit bulls and Rottweilers. A total of 113 pit bulls were involved in these deaths, and they accounted for 63% of the dogs involved in fatal attacks. If the risk of fatal attack is normalized to Labrador Retrievers and Labrador-mix breeds (the most common registered dog in the United States), the relative risk of death related to pit bull attacks is more than 2500 times higher. -Source: Mortality, Mauling, and Maiming by Vicious Dogs 2011

It doesn't really matter if certain people have a problem with the breed. The fact is it is a violation of the dog owner's rights to be singled out and have special laws applied to them, only because of the type of dog they prefer to own. No professional organization in the WORLD associated with companion animals supports or endorses BSL for good reason: IT DOESN'T WORK. That has been proven over and over and over again. So why should pet owners give up their rights to their dogs for something that will have ZERO impact on public safety? Public money is best spent on good public policy that WILL impact public safety, which leash laws, care, custody and control laws and their regular enforcement are proven to do. BSL is a waste of time, energy and money. Don't do it, ETOWAH, you can't make it work any more than Edmonton did, or Ohio did, or any number of other states, counties and towns that have REPEALED BSL in the past two years.

BSL is very hard to enforce.. The County of Prince George MD, spends 350,00 dollars per year and admit that public safety has not improved. What should be done in my opinion is enforce the existing leash laws and licensing.. assuming the city does have those laws..
