In Murray County, a 69-year-old man is recovering after a police involved shooting left him wounded. Lee Bell faces a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer.
Family members say they believe Bell suffered a stroke. That's when his daughter Crystal called 9-1-1 and the Sheriff's office. When officers arrived on the scene, Bell shot at them.
Officers returned fire, striking Bell in the chest.
Bell's family says he suffers from health problems related to a head injury he had eight years ago.
"He was in there just shooting up at the ceiling, when I thought he might had been shot himself you know with that injury he has. I thought 'Oh My God' he's shot himself. Everybody was here, they wouldn't let us back around the house. SO the GBI, the law told the GBI is that he shot and fired so they had to shoot back," says Bell's daughter, Crystal.>
Bell is currently in the Murray County jail. Family members hope he will be released into a doctor's care within the next few days.
