WALKER CO., GA. (WDEF) ---- Georgia governor Nathan Deal today took what amounts to a "victory lap" around north Georgia today, signing bills that affect Dade, Catoosa, Walker, and Whitfield counties.
Here's an over-view of some of those bills, and how they impact this area.

Moving quickly from one county to another by helicopter, Governor Nathan Deal brought a hand-full of bills to sign before local lawmakers.
At Dade county High school, with the student body and staff looking on, the Governor inked one setting education requirements to teach CPR in High School.

Later he moved to the Walker county civic center.

GOV. NATHAN DEAL, (R) GEORGIA "WE have two pieces of legislation, one relates to how to fill vacancies on the 3 county hospital authority for this part of Georgia."

That affects the board at Hutcheson Medical Center which serves Dade county as well.

BEBE HASKEL, COMMISSIONER, WALKER CO. "It was indicated that if they participate in the backing of the bond issue...that they could keep their two..otherwise it would stay one."

The other bill he signed allows restoration of historic barns, if they promote tourism.

But the Governor says one of the key pieces of legislation in the last two years, changes the business climate in the state.
He says it was directly linked to the two new flooring plants planned for Whitfield county.
They will bring some 2400 jobs in the next five years.

GOV. NATHAN DEAL, (R) GEORGIA "We believe that this additional manufacturing capability is at lease in part, incentivised by the fact that the General Assembly in a package of tax reforms last year removed sales tax on energy used for manufacturing..which is a huge part of the cost of any manufacturing operation."

The Governor credits carpet company pioneer Bob Shaw of Dalton with the original idea.
The expected uptick in employment in Whitfield county should begin the recovery from the recession.
It left an unemployment rate of 10.1 percent.
