(WDEF) The Walker County Sheriff warns people about a jury duty scam.
He says the caller tells people they owe fines or fees, so they need to buy a prepaid card and call back with the card information.
Sheriff Steve Wilson, "The caller identified themselves as me on a couple of the calls as the Sheriff Steve Wilson, and then on a few of the other calls they identified themselves as Deputy Smith or Jones or something like that.  The basis was they were telling the person that they had missed jury duty, and as a result of missing jury duty there was a fine associated with that, most of the numbers that we were getting were in the $400-500 range."
If this happened to you, call the Walker County Sheriff's Office.
