CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - The wife of rescued caver, Dwight Kempf, 54, of Pennsylvania has issued a statement through Erlanger Hospital where her husband is still listed in critical condition.

"We are extremely grateful for all the teams, from near and far, who assisted his rescue. I especially want to thank the group of cavers who were with my husband taking care of him before medical personnel arrived. Without them and the rescue/medical teams; Dwight would not have made it out alive," wrote by Jill Kempf.

Her husband was rescued Monday afternoon from Ellison's Cave in Walker County. He was with three other experienced cavers when he fell more than 50 feet down a vertical hole Sunday afternoon.

Kempf suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg from the fall.

Cave rescue teams from all over the region took part in his rescue.

Ellison's cave is one of the deepest caves in the United States.
