"I was going down 201 and I spotted Sonny Neal on the side of the road, turned back to make sure that was him."
Dia Chastain says she's the woman who tipped off police that Sonny Neal was in the area of Varnell, Georgia.
Chastain recognized him from the Tanning salon he owned with his wife, Jessica.
Neal is accused of murdering his wife, and grand father in law, Don William Shedd-- violently.
"We are very proud to say that now a week later we do have Mr. Neal in our custody," says Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood.
Now Sonny Neal was located a few hundred feet behind me in these woods off of Highway 201 in Varnell.
Officials tell me he surrendered without incident.
"We didn't want to miss an opportunity to apprehend him," says GBI Special Agent Daniel Sims.
Officials say Neal may have had a motive for being in the Highway 201 Area.
Friends say it could have something to do with one of his wife's friends.
"I think everyone that knows Sonny, knows the Sonny is a jealous person. But I don't know anyone would have ever through this would have been the outcome," says friend Ginger McDade.
We're told some Cohutta residents were also placed in protective custody.
After a week on the run, Neal is now in the hands of the Whitfield County Sheriff's Department.
Keeping the minds of residents and friends at ease.
"We've been doing roadblocks, car searches, and house searches, really everything you can think of to help make our community feel safe and that they were being protected," says Varnell Mayor Dan Peeples.
Neal asked for a doctor after being apprehended.
He was transported to Hamilton Medical Center.
