Tonight, his church community reacts.
They say they are extremely relieved, and grateful for the closure this brings.
Chapin had been a long time member of Central Baptist Church, and members there say he was and continues to be cherished.
Angie McGregor, Executive Director of Communication with Central Baptist Church, says, "We are really grateful for the closure that this brings. We are grateful that justice is done for the Chapins and for the community, and we're glad that the family now has the opportunity to move on with their lives.
Donna Adams, a church member, adds, "I am relieved that it is over with, although, like I said, it won't always be over with for the family, but at least now things have been settled and maybe things will calm down a little bit."
Members are now talking about building a sitting area in honor of Sergeant Chapin.
