(WDEF) Dalton Police issue a warning about a scam artist posing as a Dalton Police officer.
It's happened at least twice in the past week.
In each case, the scam artist called Dalton residents claiming to be a Dalton Police Officer with a bench warrant for the arrest of a member of the victim's family.
The scammer then asks for money to drop the warrant.
Bruce Frazier with the Dalton Police Department explained, "No police officer is ever going to ask for money to resolve any kind of warrant. If you're contacted by phone by a police officer, the only reason you would be contacted is to be given instructions on how to surrender or give yourself up on the warrant. Uh, or you might be told that you've got a warrant and that you've got the option of turning yourself in or being arrested."
If you've been contacted by this person or if you have any information about this scam, please call the Dalton Police.

This is why I believe people should read posts at Callercenter.com where the latest information about phone scams are available. Most phone scams may be obvious but there are still a few that may seem legit and trick a few.
