CHATTANOOGA, TN. (WDED)-- The scammers are back---and the target is once again EPB and its customers.
The electric company says several business customers have been contacted and told that unless they pay their bill immediately their power will be cut off.
The impostors then advice the business owners to purchase a pre-paid debit cards to make the payment.
John Pless, EPB Spokesman
"...and then they ask the customer to call back a number and give them that information. Fortunately, the people that we spoken with, our customers, have said they didn't fall for it. But they did do the right thing by telling us about it so that we can further investigate the source of these claims."
Pless points-out that EPB never calls customers asking for payment with a debit card.
Similar scams are working in Knoxville, Nashville and in Alabama.
