EAST RIDGE, Tennessee(WDEF) - The recent arrest of two Asian women in East Ridge is shedding light on a neighborhood business that many residents suspected was a front for illegal prostitution.
Local, state and federal authorities believe Son An Chin, 50 and Sun Duty, 64, were using the Midori Health Spa as an alleged front for organized prostitution.
All the downstairs windows were covered with dark plastic bags and espite a sign that reads open from 9 A.M. to 11 P.M.,many neighbors said it never appeared to have foot traffic during the day.
"It was only open late at night. It would stay open when it was dark. It was like nine or 10 O'clock and it was dark," said one neighbor who didn't want to be identified.
"I did see that it was open at night and I didn't understand that," said another neighbor who only wanted to be identified as Nancy.
While this doesn't come as a surprise to many neighbors who were already suspicious, there are specific element about the case that were shocking to some people.
"You wouldn't really think of older women like grandmother ages running something like that," said neighbor Terry Reno.
"I'm surprised that it is in this area because we have a nice hotel here and we've got a nice retirement home and the restaurants and antique mall. I'm just surprised that it happened right here next to where I live," said Nancy
The alleged crimes were not only happening next door but were being advertised on line. WDEF discovered ads and even customer reviews on a website called NaughtyReviews.com
. There were also ads on Backpage.com
under the adult entertainment section.
According to investigators, when they arrested the two women, they also seized a number of items from inside this business including more than $4,100 in cash. Authorities believe the cash was earned through prostitution.
In addition to prostitution charges, Chin was charged with impersonating a licensed professional.
Both women are scheduled to appear in court on November 5th.
