JASPER, Tennessee(WDEF) - A Jasper man is facing attempted first degree murder charges after police say he shot his wife in the face.

It happened Monday night inside a home on the 900 block of Hickory St.

According to investigators, the incident started as a domestic dispute between Alan Poole, 42 and his wife Nyna. The argument escalated into gunfire.

Ms. Poole was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in critical condition from a gunshot to her lower face.

Nikki Voiles and her mother Marsha Kitchens are next door neighbors who knew the Pools very well. They were both shocked to hear an attempted murder occurred within feet of there home.

"I didn't realize who it was because I don't believe it. It's hard to believe even though that happened here next to us," said Voiles. She also went on to describe Nyna Poole. "Every time I saw them, she was out here with the kids and they were happy. She would cook dinner and bring it over. She was so sweet."

Neighbors who knew the couple very well told WDEF the husband and wife had problems in the past but thought those issues were resolved.

"They had a lot of problems and she had left him. A few months ago she came back to him and they seemed to be getting along fine," said Kitchens.

The couple have three small children and according to Jasper police, all three where in the house when their father pulled the trigger.

"This is terrible. Those babies are like mine.this is awful. I can't imagine this. They were sad when the two of them broke up. But this is awful. Just awful," said Kitchens.

All three children are now staying with close relatives.

Alan Poole was also charged with resisting arrest.
