Hamilton County's SWAT team swept Loftis Middle School, searching for the suspects involved in an early morning school fire.
Around 2:30 this morning, Dallas Bay firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm. When they arrived at Loftis, they found obvious signs of vandalism in the office area. Firefighters heard noises and doors shut, so they exited the school for safety.
When they came back outside, they noticed a fire in one of the classrooms on the far right side of the building. Firefighters went back inside and extinguished the blaze.
There will be no school today at Loftis Middle, since the building remains an active crime scene and sustained water damage.
Nearby McConnell Elementary will be in full operation.
