Doctors had concerns that a mother on trial for allegedly trying to smother her 4 year old son was medically abusing him.
Monica Dawn Hammers is on trial accused of Attempted Murder and Child Abuse.
A sitter assigned to watch her and her son in their Erlanger hospital room last May testified that she saw Hammers hold a pillow over the child's face for several seconds.
She was upset about him whining.
Today the jury heard from Dr. Annamaria Church, the medical director of Erlanger's Child Protective Tam.
She went over doctor's notes detailing the child's time in the hospital...including the alleged smothering and abuse.
Dr. Annamaria Church, Erlanger Child Protective Team, "I was notified because there was now concern that there was a child in the hospital being abused or neglected."
The child was being treated for chronic diarrhea and limited growth.
He had a broken arm.
Medical abuse involves fabricating symptoms to get medical care.
