EAST RIDGE, TN. (WDEF) -- East Ridge authorities had some anxious moments around noon Friday when they received a report of a bomb at the Super 8 Motel on Ringgold Road.
East Ridge police, accompanied by fire trucks and EMS rushed to the Super 8 Motel around noon.
They sealed-off the parking lot and called for assistance from the Chattanooga Police bomb squad.
A guest in one of the rooms had called called the front desk and reported a bomb.
Police evacuated the motel while they took a closer look.
CALVIN DAVIS, WITNESS "I saw an officer bring a suspect..handcuffed. They took him to the car..sat there for a moment...next thing you know some more officers came in and they put him in the patrol car."
CPL. ROBBIE WADE, E.R. POLICE "The individual was uncooperative with officers on scene. They were telling him to leave the area..at that time they didn't know if he was involved in the actual bomb threat itself..or if he belonged to the room where the actual bomb was supposed to be . He was hesitant to leave the area and was addressed by police several times."
After a search of the motel, the threat was over and all the police and fire units returned to service.
CPL. ROBBIE WADE "It may be that some hallucinations are involved...as to why he believed there was a bomb in the room."
Corporal Wade told us later in the day that no charges were filed against the man.
Instead he was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
It turns out that East Ridge officers were already at the motel answering another call when the desk received the call from the man reporting a bomb.
They sealed off the back rooms and waited for the bomb squad to clear the area.
