Out of more than 20 bullets, family members, say, three or four hit their son.
Nathan Hartwig, with the Chattanooga Police Department, says, "The victim is at the hospital, so we're still trying to get information from the victim yet."
Now, the victims mother also rushed to the hospital, but before she did, told us off camera that her son got a text message, so he walked out of the house, and that is when he was sprayed with bullets.
His clothes mark the spot where he was hit on Citico Avenue.
Hartwig adds, "We have a black possible Honda or Hyundai, but it's a small black car."
Police believe at least two people were in that car, and targeted the 21-year-old victim, before driving off.
Christina Crowder, a neighbor, says, "He goes to work everyday, he don't bother anybody."
Family members say their son has a small child, and they believe a new man in this child's life may know something about this crime.
Crowder adds, "Whatever the situation was, I know it wasn't worth taking somebody's life."
By the looks of the shell casings and evidence markers, neighbors say that is exactly was the shooter or shooters were trying to do, take a mans life.
Crowder says, "My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and I hope he's alright."
No suspects have been arrested at this time, and the victim's name is not being released yet by the Chattanooga Police Department.
If you have information on this shooting, you are asked to call police.
The condition of the victim is not known.
