Cove Methodist Church in Walker County church does not just have history inside anymore, it now has history outside, but for all the wrong reasons.
Investigators say it is where Ronald Howard Junior molested a then 15-year-old girl in July of 2009.
Sheriff Steve Wilson says, "He committed acts of fondling the victim that resulted in sexual arousal for the perpetrator, Mr. Howard, there by is definition child molestation."
Sheriff Wilson says the two were in the parking lot near gravesites when the alleged encounter happened, and not while services were going on.
Sheriff Wilson adds, "It appears Howard and the victim became acquainted while attending church, it appears there may have been two churches in LaFayette."
And outside at least one of those churches, there are more allegations that sexual activity went on.
However, he was not charged with more than one count of child molestation.
Sheriff Wilson says, that is because they occurred after the victim turned 16.
Sheriff Wilson adds, "It may be said he was a self-described youth minister in his own mind, but there's no evidence he held any leadership position in those respective churches."
Now, we tried to confront Howard at his home, however, someone came out and said he did not want to speak with us.
We actually wanted to ask him about even more allegations that surfaced in 2005.
Sheriff Wilson says, "In Chattooga County, he was investigated by the GBI. There was alleged child molestation with I believe a 13-year-old girl, however, the GBI could never develop enough information to make an arrest."
With an arrest now made, officers hope the complaints end with this recent teenager who confided in her principal.
