Two men captured after day long manhunt in Hamilton County

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tennessee(WDEF) - The search for two men who led deputies on a car chase after attempting a burglary are now behind bars.

Cole Nathaniel Howard, 24 and Christopher Whitford, 24 were both charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, theft, felon in possession of a weapon, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy.

It all started Monday morning when the two men reportedly tried to break into a home on the 1500 block of Laurel Breeze Drive on Signal Mountain.

A woman who was inside, called 911 and gave authorities a description of the vehicle they were driving.

When a Hamilton County sheriffs deputy spotted the vehicle, the two men led the deputy on a car chase that ended inside a Red Bank apartment complex.

The two men ditched their car and took off into the woods.

Howard was captured when he came out of the woods on the W Road. Christopher Whitford turned himself into the Hamilton County Jail Monday night.

Authorities recovered weapons and numerous tools that were allegedly used during the crime.
