The Hamilton County Commission this morning heard an appeal to return control of the PILOT money to the school district.
Superintendent Rick Smith was fulfilling a promise he made last summer when he replaced Superintendent Jim Scales.
The Payment in Lieu of Taxes money is collected from some of the newer industries in the county and used only for schools.
The commission now controls the funds..and has set it aside only for maintenance and building projects.
There is currently about $1.6 million in the account.
Commissioners took no action since it was an agenda session.
