Some teachers hand out the lesson and go about their day...

Others inspire tudents to change the world.

At Rossville Middle School a group of 7th graders are learning to make a difference...

Brandon Larson is this week's Golden Apple Award winner....

Social Studies teacher Brandon Larson asks his 7th grade class, "Who was Ghandi? How did he change India, and how can you inspire others like Ghandi?"

Larson's class is a welcoming environment where the students get to weigh in... And where they learn about the world beyond these four walls...

Larson says of Ghandi, "That's so awesome to think that somebody literally changed an entire world by making a statement by not fighting back."

Today the lesson surrounds Ghandi... But Larson says the topics range from geography, to world history and even civics, "We go on a journey through different times in history, different places around the world and the kids can actually see that there's more out there..."

And for his students those trips around the world are sinking in...

7th Grader Bailey Roberts reads from her Golden Apple Nomination letter, "He doesn't just sit there and tell us to read out of a book and take notes. He would let us talk about it as a class."

Bailey says Mr. Larson actually talks to his students, instead of treating them like little kids.

She says he takes the time to make sure everyone learns... And he teaches the lesson so everyone is involved, "We can experience it and know how it feels instead of just reading it as a class or by ourselves and having to remember."

It's that personal experience Larson wants his students to feel.

He says each one of his has the power to make their world better...and it's his job to help them, "I tell my kids you might be the next Martin Luther King, Jr or you might be the next Ghandi... you might be the next world changer."
