Sometimes kids just need someone they can count on...
At Whitwell High School students say there's one teachers who's always on your side.
Eleanor Campbell is this week's Golden Apple Award winner.
Math teacher Eleanor Campbell says to a classroom of bright-eyed high schoolers, "Solving equations... That's what algebra and everything's all about, right?"
Math may not be your favorite subject... But maybe that's because Ms. Campbell never explained it.
The Whitwell High School math teacher says being in front of a class is her calling.
She chose a math class 'cause it's a challenge, "Wasn't always good at it, wasn't necessarily my best subject."
Five days a week Ms. Campbell breaks down math concepts for her kids.
She takes it slow when her students have trouble and loves to see them understand, "All of a sudden it's just like, "Oh, this is pretty easy."
Thanks to that comfortable patience and easy joy her kids agree.
Senior Trae Copeland reads from his Golden Apple nomination letter, "(Ms. Campbell) is a teacher who understands how the student mind works and also just how stressful even the smallest things in high school can be."
Trae has never been in Ms. Campbell's class, but he says her tutoring greatly improved his algebra skills, "No matter what she's always there for everybody."
But it's even more than that... Trae says Ms. Campbell expects you to behave, but sets a relaxed tone that makes it easy to learn.
Plus he says she's the one who screams the loudest at football pep rallies, "That's all you can say... It's Ms. Campbell."
Ms. Campbell says it's a two-way street.
She says life is hard enough, and it helps when someone's in your corner, "These students at Whitwell high school are the reason I'm here."
