(WDEF)  The best and brightest teachers from all over the Tennessee Valley region gathered at the Chattanooga Trade and Convention Center Tuesday night.
It was for the Golden Apple Award teacher of the year banquet.
The 30 teachers profiled during the past eight months were whittled down to four finalists, and one teacher of the year.
That honor went to Mark Pierce of Ringgold High School.
Mr. Pierce asks his students to "wow" him every day.
And Tuesday night, he was wowed.
He said, "What I want to do is give it back to them and tell them how much I enjoy being around them and how much they mean to me as an educator.  They're wonderful, wonderful students."
The other finalists were Jennifer Davis from Oak Grove Elementary, Jesse Hillis of Signal Mountain Middle, Azelia Sims of Hillcrest Elementary and Beth Reed from Calvin Donaldson Elementary School.
