(WDEF) The March 31st deadline to enroll in the Affordable Care Act's health insurance marketplace is less than a week away. That's why Erlanger officials like Katherlyn Geter spent their Thursday at East Lake Academy.
The ACA Manager said, "Today we're out here enrolling and educating people about the Affordable Care Act, and just encouraging, just wanted to be a presence in the community to let folks know there's help available."
The event was aimed at folks like Ernestine Jones. She said, "Well I can use the dental, the vision, the health. In fact, I can use it all."
She's healthy and wants to stay that way. Jones added, "The job that I have is not, it has insurance but its what Obama was offering, so I want to try and see if I could qualify for that and if I was eligible."
Even though the deadline looms close, people like Jones who've started the process to sign up now get until April 15th to finish signing up.
Geter added, "This allows those individuals that at least started the process to get in and try to get enrolled."
Jones said, "I'm glad about that because with me being such a busy person, I'm moving all the time doing this that and what have you, it just kind of like slipped my mind and once I got this call I called in to that to see if I had time enough to get in here and do it." She was just one of 35 people who took advantage of the healthcare help by early afternoon.
Geter said, "Surprisingly today it's been a lot of young folks. Typically what we've seen has been about middle aged, older, but today has been a lot of young folks and that's very encouraging and that's exactly what we want is those young invincibles to come out and get enrolled."
Officials held a similar event at Cleveland State Community College Wednesday.
20 people signed up for the Affordable Care Act at that event.
