(WDEF) Alton Park residents kick off a big program to beautify the neighborhood they know and love.
     Phase One is now complete.
Freshly planted flowers and mulch greet drivers at the intersection of Alton Park at 37th Street.
Friday morning, elected officials from the state city and county met with neighborhood leaders to celebrate what the beautification project means for Alton Park.
The hope is to get help from other Chattanoogans to beautify the entire area.
Milton Jackson is the President of the Alton Park-Piney Woods Neighborhood Association.  He explained, "We are in an area that needs to be cleaned up.  We have overgrowth in different areas.  We have houses that need to be torn down, condemned.  And there's so much that needs to be done out here."
Phase Two will be a "Welcome to Alton Park" sign at Alton Park Boulevard at West 33rd.
