We continue our series of reports on the candidates for Chattanooga city council.
It's a crowded field in District 4 with five people seeking the seat held by Jack Benson.
In addition to Benson, the candidates are Larry Grohn, Ryan King, Scott McColpin, and Tom Tomisek.
We asked them their number one priority should they be elected.
JACK BENSON "I've always been in a position of serving people and education and social work. I want to serve people well in this city and in my district."
LARRY GROHN "The number one thing I'm going to do when I get in is..we have an independent auditor now. We can audit the entire city, every department in the city . We can find out where all the waste is..and we can apply those savings to taking care of basic services..including police, fire, roads., infrastructure. "
RYAN KING "Well, the biggest thing or problem that I see in city government right now is that so many of the decisions that they make are made in a vacuum, and kind of divorced from public input. And I want to give back to the people in the community, the people who actually put these people there."
SCOTT MCCOLPIN "Well, the first thing I'd like to do is try to get the city sewer billing service back here from the company in California. I'd like to see the electric power board do that. They are owned by the city ..And I think they could do it more efficiently and cheaper than the contract that's now issued."
TOM TOMISEK "I would like to see the infrastructure of Chattanooga be improved, the roads, be improved a lot . The other thing I would like to see is that businesses like this are safe from crime..so they keep their value up."
Friday night we will hear from the candidates in city council district 3.
The municipal election is March 5th, but early voting is already underway.
