Local supporters of Susan G. Komen's mission to fight breast cancer received a pat on the back today.
It's the first year for the group's awards banquet.
It honors people involved in the local breast cancer battle.
Despite the national controversy over cutting funding to Planned Parenthood, which the group reversed, Chattanooga's chapter has not lost its focus.
Executive Director Karen Edmondson says, "Fortunately we have a really strong support base here in Chattanooga and our mission is to bring breast cancer...an end to breast cancer and our supporters understand that. Of course we have those who are upset with us no matter which side of the issue we end up on, but we will continue to do our part."
Susan G. Komen gives 75% of the money it raises back to the community...a total of $3 point 6 million in 12 years.
