(WDEF) Chattanooga residents battled the rain Saturday morning to safely dispose of personal documents.
It was the annual Shred-It event at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Annex building on Dayton Boulevard.
People brought in their paperwork containing personal information and the sheriff's office shredded it...  Free of charge.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office also participated in National Drug Take Back Day.
At the same time people brought in their paperwork, they could also safely dispose of their old or outdated prescription medication.
Janice Atkinson with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office explained, "People will throw them in the trash, it gets into the water level, contaminate our water that we drink every day.  So it's safer just to do something like this.  Bring it by and let it be disposed of in a proper way."
The Sheriff's Office holds this event every year, a few weeks after tax day.
