CLEVELAND, Tennessee(WDEF) - A local Zumba instructor is hosting a fundraiser to help people who suffer from a progressive and deadly disease.

When Zumba instructor Kelly Reis teaches her class this upcoming Friday night, she'll be doing more than helping people get into shape. She'll be raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

"I though what a better way to expose people to Zumba and get people involved to know more about this great cause," Reis said.

A cause to help people like 5-year old Ellie Bean on Cleveland. She's a little girl who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis; an inherited chronic disease that affects roughly 30,000 people in America. The condition causes clogging of  the lungs with mucus which  leads to life threatening lung infections. It also obstructs the pancreas and keeps the body from absorbing food.

"When she was born, she was fairly healthy and then around eight months she did have to have a very minor operation but it wasn't that big of a deal. Then when she was two we had to start enzyme before she ate and then last year we had to start the vest treatments," said Ellie's mother Sherry Bean.

A person with Cystic Fibrosis is always open to complications. Even the common cold can cause major problems.

"When she gets a cold, we have to increase the breathing treatments and the vest treatment to four or five times a day per doctor's protocol," Bean said.

For many parents, there's a sad reality that a child with Cystic Fibrosis may not live to become an adult.

"There's a little bit of fear with not knowing how things will go. It's a progressive disease and so far we've been very fortunate," Bean said.

The goal of the charity Zumbathon is to raise $1000 through ticket sales and other items that will be sold.

The Zumbathon will take place Friday night from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. at The Venue Creekside in Cleveland. The address is 527 West Inman Street. Tickets are $10 at the door.
