"An experienced Chattanooga Pediatrician feels the health benefits of newborn circumcision slightly outweigh the risks involved but believes the decision making rests with the boy's parents." It's not just about risks but losses to normal functioning and human rights. The owner, not his parents, has a right to decide the fate of his own normal, healthy body parts, when he is old enough to do so. He'll almost always decide to keep them all - which ought to tell you something. "If you are going to do it do in the newborn period, because it is much more traumatic for the child being done later on, we have to do it under anesthesia, we then have the risk of anesthesia, the complication rate is way higher when it is done later on, infection rate is higher" So he's admitting they can't use anaesthetic on newborns, making them suffer excruciating pain - which at their age must seem endless. And it's not true about complications. Any tiny mistake on a baby is magnified on a man, and there's no dotted line, no "right" amount to cut off - that's all a matter of the doctor's luck, skill and whim. "He says there is no major harm in leaving your children uncircumcised as long as they wash regularly." No harm at all and ordinary washing is sufficient. 2,000,000,000 men in the world have all we were born with, and the vast majority of us have no problems. "How many people practice perfect hygiene? you have to put that factor in there, you can educate and by pass that problem" So much fussing. The main reason boys "need" genital cutting later is ignorant meddling, forcibly retracting them before they are ready. "Dr Naseer added medical journals show circumcision has played a role in combating the spread of HIV and Herpes in the developing world." Actually, there is very little evidence of that, if any. In 10 countries (out of 18 for which USAID has figures) more of the circumcised men have HIV than the non-circumcised.

Having all of ones genitals is better than having innervated parts cut off. For the male, the long term harm is huge with nerve damage and harm to the sensory system. A whole range of sensation and sexual and protective function are lost. The lips, nipples and fingertips have similar touch sense. To take this away from another person without their consent is heinous. To do this to a baby is creepy. EVERY HUMAN (male and female) has the RIGHT (a human right) to reach adulthood with all of the tissue (particularly all of their erogenous tissue) that THEIR genetic code provides.

I guess, according to this pediatrician, it's okay to remain unbeheaded, as long as I occasionally wash that too. Every mammal is born with a foreskin; to call an intact human male "uncircumcised" makes about as much sense. You can't "un" something that has never been that way. You must wash all your body parts. Washing a normal male body is just as simple as washing a normal female, and vastly easier than caring for an open wound in a dirty diaper. Shall we ask him how much he pocket$ for every child he cuts? The bottom line? Every human, no matter his age, has the right to bodily autonomy. It is not the parents' right to choose for another person (or his future partners) how his body parts look and function. Children are not property.

Great to read about this very important protest, men and women standing up for the rights of children. Dr. Naseer needs to re-examine his/her understanding of medial ethics. Surgery without dire need and expressed understanding and consent of the patient is UNETHICAL! Cutting up the healthy genitals of children is medical fraud and child abuse.
