The decision by Volkswagen on whether to accept a "card check" instead of a union election apparently has not been made.
But eight employees have filed charges against the United Auto Workers Union for, quote, "coercing" them into signing cards in favor of unionization.

The United Auto Workers Union has been recruiting employees at the Enterprise South plant for several months.
Volkswagen leaders say they are encouraging the formation of a Works Council in the plant, which would include union participation, but stopped short of endorsing UAW representation.
Local UAW representatives have announced that they have the signatures of more than 50 percent of the 2500 Volkswagen employees on cards....and are asking that no secret ballot election be held.
Now, 8 employees have filed charges against UAW, asking for their cards back.
The National Right to Worker Foundation is offering them free legal assistance.

PATRICK SEMMENS, V.P., NATIONAL RIGHT TO WORK FOUNDATION "They actually met in person this past weekend down in Chattanooga ...And they decided that this was the way they wanted to move forward to protect their rights."

The UAW has not responded to numerous requests for comment on the current situation at the V-W plant.
But the National Right to Work Foundation tells us that the filing of federal charges by the workers will result in an investigation by the National Labor Relations Board in Atlanta.

PATRICK SEMMENS "It should be as simple as sending a letter to the union but we see sometimes that they'll require social security numbers, require they be delivered personally ...Required they be sent by certified mail...none of which is legal...its merely a way to make it more difficult for workers to exercise their rights."

Meanwhile, Chattanooga leaders have generally opposed unionization at a plant..which may actually double in size over the next few years.
