Some Apison Elementary students are getting a better understanding of plant life.
That's thanks to a special project being created at the school.
The sustainability garden will include aquaponics, vertical farming, rainwater collection and a wildlife sanctuary.
It will also include a raised garden bed for special needs students.
Tennessee's Commissioner of Agriculture came for the groundbreaking.
Julius Johnson says it's important for students to learn about farming.
"It's so, so much meaningful, what you read in a book. If you get your hands applying to the soil, and the plant and so forth, to see things happen. It's so much more meaningful, and it carries home to a better learning experience."
