Thrasher Elementary school was named a State of Tennessee Reward School for 2012 and 2013.
Schools get that honor for high performance, and for showing growth from year to year.
Assistant Principal Jeff Paulson says there are a number of reasons for the school's success.
"All the research about effective schools says it comes down to three things, and it's parents that are involved, and teacher development and how much students read at home and at school, and we've got all three of those at Thrasher."
When you first come to Thrasher Elementary, the first thing that you see are the rocking chairs out in front of the school.
Administrators say that sets the tone for a very serene and positive learning environment.
When you walk into the lobby, they have a pond with water flowing over rocks.
The school has also gotten quite a bit of community support.
The back of the school has a greenhouse, an outdoor classroom and solar panels.
All of those things were provided by TVA.
The school also gets help from the Mountain Education Foundation.
The Foundation provides salaries so the students can have art, and computer technology.
It also helped provide professional development for the teachers.
