Hi I'm Phil Lempert with the New Product Hits & Misses. Our first of 5 hits this week is Pepperidge Farm Baked Naturals Nacho Cheese Tortilla. It seems like there are more new chips and snacks than ever before. We just love to snack! These are baked and are less dense, even slightly puffed, which translates to a tasty, but still crunchy experience. These have almost half the fat of typical fried chips. The nacho cheese flavor is very mild - I'd like to taste a little bit more cheese and spice. Retails for $2.99 for 6oz. Total Score 85.
Pace Restaurant Style Salsa Garlic & Lime Verde is a hit. If you are looking for a different kind of salsa, check this one out. The flavor is excellent, a good balance between the lime and garlic, although I do like a little more garlic. This salsa is more sweet than spicy and my only complaint is that it's a little too runny - I like my salsas thicker. And wish they put the Scoville rating on the label. Retails for $2.99 for 16 oz. Total Score 87.
Honest Kids Organic Juice Drink Berry Berry Good Lemonade is a hit. I hated this package when Capri Sun first had it and I still don't like it - especially for kids - it is likely that it'll be a mess when you poke the package with the straw. What I do like is that this lemonade is almost one third juice and not overly sweet, just 9 grams of sugars per pouch and there's no high fructose corn syrup. Once again I have to point out that while the flavor is Berry Berry Lemonade it contains white grape juice, lemon juice and cranberry juice. Yes I know cranberry is a berry…but it is still misleading. Retails for $3.99 for 8 x 6.75 fl oz pouches. Total Score 91.
Stump's Hot Pickled Mushrooms is another hit. I love this product! Just mushrooms, water, vinegar, salt and spice. Unlike so many other pickled products these mushrooms are not too vinegar-y, the spices are clean and have a terrific burn. I could see eating them as a snack, using them as a condiment, on top of a salad or even adding them to a bloody Mary or martini. Retails for $6.99 for 16 oz. Total Score 91.
Post Grape-Nuts Fit Cranberry Vanilla is our hit of the week. Finally there's a Grape-Nuts for the under 70 crowd! This cereal is of the European style and is loaded with cranberries and whole grains - in fact, 42 grams of whole grains in just one serving - and it tastes great! The picture on the front of the package doesn't do the product justice. With 6 grams of protein and only 9 grams of sugars with a half a cup of fat free milk, this breakfast will come in a just 260 calories. Retails for $3.79 for 19.2 oz. Total Score 92.
