I'm Phil Lempert with the New PRoduct Hits & Misses. All hits this week!
Dragon Fruit Slices
is a hit.
This is a terrific alternative to fruit roll ups. 100% dragon fruit that is pressed together and then sliced into these pieces. One ounce, contains 1 gram of fat, 25 grams of naturally occurring sugars, with 2 grams of protein and 54 mg of magnesium. The taste is absolutely delicious. Dragon fruit contains omega 3s, fiber, vitamins and iron. You could just snack on them, or cut them up and put them on salads or mix with nuts. The one drawback is that all the slices stick together. Retails for $8.99 for 3 oz. Total score is 89.
is a hit.
If you're looking for a lower calorie dessert without any artificial sweeteners, check this out. Only 150 calories in the entire package, a serving size is 1/4 cup and that's just 36 calories. It does have a sweet maple flavor and is made with organic cane sugar, but don't expect the same mouth feel as you would from a gelato. This is 'icier', but well worth the different in calories. No fat and only 5 grams of sugars with 3 grams of protein per serving.
Retails for $4.99 for 1 pint. Total Score is 91.
Chocolate Flavored Peanut Butter Spread
Peppermint Chocolate Flavor
is a hit.
Imagine peanut butter with chocolate and peppermint mixed in and that's exactly what this product is. The peppermint comes through loud and clear and actually refreshes your mouth. Compare this with Nutella - this has 100 calories, Nutella 200, this has 2 grams of fat, Nutella 12 grams and this has 2 grams of sugars, Nutella has 21 grams. I wouldn't eat this on bread or crackers, it would be perfect on celery, carrots, ice cream and even just on the tip of your finger. Retails for $5.80 for 16 oz. Total Score is 91.
Naturally Sweetened Zero Calorie Soda
Professor Fizz Flavor
is a hit.
This is an interesting twist. Zero calorie, sweetened with erythritol and stevia leaf extract with caffeine and lots and lots of flavor. They say it's Spiced Cherry and that's a good description. This is clearly an adult flavor, not too sweet and not too overpowering. Zero calories and made with natural flavors. I applaud that they put right on the label that it has 40 mg of caffeine. Retails for 6.49 for 6 x 12 fl oz (6 pack). Total score is a 92.
Organic Dark Chocolate + Quinoa
is the hit of the week.
This is the modern day M&M. 70% cacao with quinoa and rice covered in a 'candy' shell, everything organic. It is crispy and delicious. One box, which is 2 ounces, is 290 calories, 14 grams of fat, but wait, 35 grams of sugars, but it's candy - so if you are going to cheat, cheat with this delicious Keeno Krunchie. The only thing that's off putting is this weird monkey. Imported from Peru. Retails for $2.99 for 2 oz. Total score is 93.
