Hi, I"m Phil Lempert with the New Product Hits & Misses.

Up first, Hormel Compleats Good Mornings Bacon Breakfast Scramble and it's a miss!

I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and eggs are a fabulous source of protein, however this new combination of scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, bacon and cheese just doesn't make it. The aroma is very unpleasant, the eggs come out more brown than yellow and the taste is nothing near what bacon and eggs should taste like. I get that they're trying to make this more convenient, however it's really not that hard to scramble up some fresh eggs. To make it even worse take a look at this long list of ingredients. One serving, or one container, which is 7 ounces is 25 grams of fat with 900 mg of sodium and 480 mg of cholesterol. Retails for $2.59 for 7.5 oz. Total Score is 59.

Element Rice Cake Sweet Orange is a hit.

These are very thin rice cakes that have a frosting that's made up of yogurt, sugar, cocoa butter and milk and is naturally flavored with orange and vanilla. The taste is very sweet and surprisingly very good, however I just don't see the need for frosted rice cakes, it almost seems an oxymoron, but they are gluten free. One cake is 5 1/2 grams of sugars, 3 grams of fat and 80 calories. Imported from Italy. Retails for $2.35 for 1.2 oz. Total Score is 85.

The Paleo Diet Bar Cinnamon Raisin is a hit.

This bar is very chewy with a base of dates, almonds and egg white protein powder. Although the flavor is cinnamon I really don't taste the cinnamon. I also applaud them using hemp protein powder, and the bar meets the requirements of the Paleo diet. One bar is 290 calories, 14 grams of fat, 17 grams of protein and 23 grams of sugars, all of which are naturally occurring. And it's gluten free. Retails for $2.89 for 2 oz. Total Score is 88.

Youthy Forever Passion For Cactus is a hit.

I'm not sure that this will make you forever young, but it tastes delicious. 100% juice, a recipe of apple, pear, pineapple, passionfruit and cactus pear is very refreshing. It always bugs me when apple juice is the first juice listed and nowhere on the front of the label does it either show us an apple or list it. Why will this keep us young forever? It's rich in antioxidants, but they actually don't tell us how rich. It does contain 40 mg of grapeseed extract and 30 mg of resveratrol. With a little tweaking this could be huge. Retails for $3.00 for 11 oz. Total Score is 88.

Late July Tortilla Chips Chia & Quinoa is the hit of the week.

You already know that I love ancient grains and these chips are made with ground corn, chia seeds, and quinoa and are one of the best chips I've had. 10 chips are 140 calories, 6 grams of fat and only 65 mg of sodium. I also love the see through window. These chips are slightly larger than normal - the perfect size. Delicious. Retails for $4.49 for 11 oz. Total Score is 94.
