Hi, I'm Phil Lempert with the New Product Hits & Misses.
Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Fruit and Oat Harvest Blueberry Bliss,
This bar is basically an oat bar with fruit on top. The blueberry flavor is good and actually comes from concentrated blueberry puree. Each bar is 5 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugars and only 5 grams of protein. Naturally and artificially flavored, the taste is good, but the texture is a little bit more chewy than I prefer. One thing to note is it does have 15 grams of sugars, both naturally occurring and from added sugars. Retails for $3.59 for 5 x 1.76 oz bars. Total Score is 81.
Simply Protein Crunch with Raspberry and Coconut is a hit.
This is one of the most clever uses of whey that I've ever tasted. Whey is basically a by product of making cheese and since it's high in protein it's been used as an ingredient to increase nutritional value. These are actually little puffs that are made from a recipe primarily of whey and rice flour with inulin, raspberries and coconut. One third of the bag is just 110 calories, 2 1/2 grams of fat and 10 grams of protein. But how does it taste? Fabulous! Retails for $6.99 for 3.7 oz. Total Score is 86.
Skinny Girl Sparklers Pink Grapefruit Sparkling Water is a hit.
This is just 10 calories for the entire 17 ounce bottle, with 2 grams of sugars. The aroma and flavor are excellent. It contains 5% grapefruit juice, along with other sugars and artificial sweeteners, extracts of maqui berry, acai and green tea. There is a long list of ingredients, including niacinamide and other B vitamins, so read the label before you sip. Retails for $1.29 for 17 oz. Total Score is 86.
Domino Flip Top Pure Cane Sugar Quick Dissolve is a hit.
This needless to say, is all about the package. As the price of sugar continues to increase less consumers are buying 5 pound bags of sugar which aren't 5 pound bags anymore and many are trying to cut back on sugar consumption overall. This package is certainly handy and is designed to remove the entire label to make it more attractive to leave right on the table. This is their Quick Dissolve, which basically just means finer granules so it's perfect to add to cold, or room temperature beverages. What does it taste like? Seriously? Sugar! Retails for $3.00 for 12 oz. Total score is 90.
Kitchen Table Bakers Parmesan Crisps Chia Seed is the hit of the week!
We first reviewed this back in 2006 and now they've jumped on the trend and actually added chia seeds, which is a good addition and balances out nicely with the parmesan. These are a bit more crunchy because of the chia seeds, which is a good thing. 7 grams of protein in 3 crisps and just 80 calories. These are a great alternative for snacking - wheat, gluten and sugar free. Made with non-animal rennet cheese. Retails for $5.99 for 3 oz. Total Score is 91.
