Hi I"m Phil Lempert with the New Product Hits & Misses. Our first of 5 products is
Crispy Chick'n Sliders.
Welcome to 1985! It doesn't have to be this hard to make a meat-free slider that tastes like chicken. While the patty itself is good, what is with these directions? Wrap the patty in a paper towel, take it out, put it back with the bun upside down, microwave again, then wait. This slider does not contain either lettuce, tomato or sauce - these are just soy and grain patties that are breaded with a bun. Retails for $4.99 for 320g (4 sliders). Total Score 82.
is our first hit.
For those waffle lovers who also love flavor. These are made from a recipe of gluten free oats, soy puree and chia. You can actually see the whole blueberries and the flavor is delicious. 30 seconds in a microwave came out perfect, although not as crispy as I like my waffles. 2 waffles are 9 grams of protein, just 130 mg of sodium and 140 calories. One note - yet another product hitting the shelves using pea protein. Retails for $5.29 for 6.14 oz. (6 waffles) Total Score is 88.
Reduced Sodium Alternative
is another hit.
We have to remember why salt is added to foods - it adds flavor! This product is full of flavor, but has two thirds less sodium than regular salt. But remember that one teaspoon of Lo Salt still contains 680mg of sodium and 1800mg of potassium. To use this in your salt shaker is a good move, but I think in today's cooking there are better alternatives to add flavor to recipes with different spices. Retails for $5.99 for 12.35 oz. Total Score is 88.
Organic & Ethically Traded
Dark Chocolate with Almonds
and it's a hit.
This is one really good chocolate bar. 72% cacao with almonds that are just the right size. If you love chocolate, you'll love this. Made with all organic ingredients and ethically traded, this is a great product. My only negative comment is what is with these two runners on the package? I guess she is crossing the finish line. Retails for $4.79 for 2.2 oz. Total Score 92.
Flax n'Chia Stix
Golden Flax Seed & Chia Seed
is the hit of the week.
This is a great way to add protein, fiber and omega 3 fatty acids to just about any food. Sprinkle this into smoothies, on salads, on cereal, even eggs. A recipe of flax and chia, which is absolutely delicious and ground into the perfect consistency. You can carry this with you for every meal. One package is just 4 1/2 grams of fat, zero mg of sodium, with 4 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein. Retails for $12.99 for 7.9 oz. Total Score is 96.
