Death Valley Awaits Top Ranked Alabama
Top-ranked Alabama visits fifth ranked LSU on Saturday in a rematch of last year's BCS national title game. The Tide blanked the Tigers in the championship game, but can they dominate like that in Death Valley.
Alabama may roll into Baton Rouge as the number one team in the country, but LSU has the nation's longest home winning streak with 22 consecutive wins in Death Valley. Said Tigers head coach Les Miles after beating South Carolina at home,"That was Death Valley. That was the place where opponents dreams come to die. And it was spectacular." Said Bama receiver Kevin Norwood,"We just know that that environment is going to be crazy. Super crazy." Added Tide running back Eddie Lacy,"We're going to come out with high energy. They're going to come out the same. Our crowd. Their crowd. It's just going to be a loud, physical, tough, game all the way around."
The last visiting team to win in Death Valley was also ranked number one. Florida beat the Tigers 13-3 in 2009. LSU might be lucky to score three points against Alabama. The Tide leads the nation in an amazing seven defensive categories. No wonder Alabama can be confident. Said Tide safety Robert Lester,"Just playing our defense. Believing in the game plan. And executing the defense." Said Tide linebacker C.J. Mosely,"Just got to do our job. Got to make sure we affect the quarterback when we can. And make sure we do great tackling and try to force turnovers in the game."
Fifth ranked LSU is expected to give Bama their toughest test yet. Said Tide coach Nick Saban,"Obviously this is the kind of game that if you are a competitor, you enjoy playing in." Added Les Miles,"There's probably a piece in every man that I just don't want this to end on the wrong side of the score."
Saturday's game kicks at 8pm, and it will be televised on WDEF News 12.
