TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WDEF)- Former Alabama athletic director Mal Moore has passed away at the age of 73.
The university says Moore died on Saturday at Duke University Medical Center. Moore had been hospitalized since March 13 with pulmonary problems.
Moore had a hand in 10 football national championships with Alabama, first as a Crimson Tide player, then later as a coach or administrator. Moore stepped down as athletic director on March 20th after 14 years in the position.
The former AD was instrumental in hiring Nick Saban as football coach. Saban has led the Tide to three titles in four years. The football and athletic administration buildings both bear his name.
Moore was an assistant coach under Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings, and played on Bryant's 1961 national championship team.
