Chattanooga-(WDEF) Lady Mocs golfer Jordan Britt qualified for the Women's U-S Amateur on Monday at the Dalton Country Club. Britt broke out a new putter, but that wasn't her secret weapon. It was her caddie.
Jordan Britt's caddie selection for the Women's U-S Amateur qualifier turned some heads. She picked Josh Williams, who just finished last season as the Mocs all-time sacks leader. Said Britt,"Oh, he knows all the girls on the team. Everybody loves him. He's like a big supporter, so why not?" Said Williams,"She was just telling me how she needed a caddie, and that she needed somebody to really help her out. I was like, I can do it. I train. I work out."
Williams was nervous because he's like never really been on a golf course before. "My biggest thing was Josh, do not embarrass Jordan out here on the golf course. I have no golf etiquette at all." Added Britt,"We were able to iron out all the kinks on etiquette, and where he was supposed to stand during the practice round. So when it came time for the real deal, he was good."
Britt says Williams tried to be helpful. "He would throw the grass up a few times and be like, I think it's blowing in that direction." Reporter-"Did he sack anybody?" Said Britt,"No he did not.(laughter) He offered. He did."
So will Williams accompany Britt to Charleston for the Women's U-S Amateur the first of August? "Maybe we need to teach him to read greens first."
But having a football player as a caddie, that's par for the course for JB. "I play the best when I'm happy." Reporter-"Do you even have a game face at all?" Said Britt,"No. I've been told that I don't. Like even Josh was kind of like, you're really just nice."(laughter) Said Williams,"She's so sweet. She's always like, good job, good shot. I was like no, no, no, don't tell them that." Said Britt,"It's not that I can't handle pressure, it's just I've found an alternate way to address it. And that's just to put a smile on my face. When I was younger, I know a lot of girls would think that I was really intimidating, and I was like why? It hurt my feelings a little bit. It's like, I'm a nice person."
Reporter-"Was that kind of your way to break the ice, just be happy with them?" Said Britt,"Be like Hi, I'm not scary. (laughter) Sometimes."
Reporter-"That's a great opening line. Hi, I'm not scary." (laughter) Said Britt,"I'm not scary I promise." Reporter-"But my caddie is, don't worry." Said Britt,"My bodyguard and caddie."
