McCallie teammates Cam Walker and C.J. Fritz will not have to travel far to continue their football careers. Both guys announced on Sunday that they decided to stay at home and play at Chattanooga.
Blue Tornado receiver/defensive back Cam Walker and lineman C.J. Fritz have been good friends and teammates since the 8th grade, and now they can maintain that friendship in college at UTC.
Said Fritz,"Me and my parents just thought it over. Talked about it on Sunday night. We just thought it was the best fit for me. The coaches, the education, and the players."
Said Walker,"I've got all my brothers back here and stuff. My oldest brother is about to have a little baby girl. All that kind of played and factored into where I'm going because family is so important to me. It was definitely something that was at the top of my list."
Walker says UTC already feels like a football family to him.
"I've been really good friends with (Mocs QB) Jacob Huesman for awhile. I requested him to come down and be my host on my visit. It's one of those things where I've known him for so long, and with my brother playing there, and my oldest brother leading the FCA over there. It has just been awesome."
Teams always want speed, and the Mocs will be getting a super fast recruit in Fritz.
Reporter-"What was your time the last time you ran the forty?"
Reporter-"That's pretty fast."
"Yes sir." (laughter)
Added Walker,"They were like man, do it again. He slipped on his second one and ran a 4.41, so they were just like, wow."
Fritz will likely put that speed to use in the defensive backfield, while Walker isn't sure yet where he might line up.
Said Fritz,"They scouted out 65 cornerbacks and offered only three of them. I was one of the top three, so that's really a blessing."
Said Walker, "They said I have the body type to either help them out on the offensive line, if they decided to redshirt me and try to put some weight on. But then it's one of those things with my body type and running ability and stuff, if I don't put on a lot of weight, I could go to defensive end."
