The Mocs golf team is tied for 20th place after the second round of the NCAA Championships. Cory Whitsett shot a 3-under 68 to help Alabama to take a four-shot lead at Riviera Country Club. The Crimson Tide were 4-over 572. UCLA is alone in second. UTC Sophomore Chris Robb led the Mocs carding a one-over par 72. Robb got off to a fast start with birdies on one and three. His birdie on eight got him back to minus two before a bogey at nine had him at one under at the turn. He scrambled his way through the back nine finishing birdie-par for his one-over total. Stephan Jaeger ground out a two-over par 73. He also started with a birdie. Ten pars and four bogeys later, he walked off 15 at plus three. His tee shot on the par three 16 was one-foot shy of the hole and his resulting birdie provided his final total of two over. Davis Bunn and Steven Fox each shot four-over par 75s. The duo each overcame a rough five-hole stretch (12-16) with three bogeys apiece. Liam Johnston’s 80 rounded out the team scores. The final stroke play round begins Thursday morning with teams 16-30 teeing off in the morning and 1-15 in the afternoon. The top eight teams at the end of the day advance to match play.
